You've knocked Deadpool off his throne!

A lot has certainly changed in the last 2 years. But does this also apply to the tastes of nerds and geeks when it comes to their favorite themes? Is Deadpool still the most popular superhero? Are real nerds still into Star Trek TOS? Does anyone still like Commander Keen?
We wanted to know this and more from you in our survey on the most popular themes and franchises of 2021. Hundreds of nerds voted again. And here are the results.

As every year, there were exactly 200 themes and franchises that could be marked with "I like". If a topic/franchise has collected many such likes, it rises in the rankings. In the following PDF you will find the ranking list of these franchises sorted by place in 2021 (with the corresponding percentages). You will also find the rankings from 2019 and the difference between the two years.

Since we only have exactly 200 voting places (otherwise the list would be endless) and new suggestions are regularly added, the worst topics at the bottom will be removed from the next poll. That's why you won't find things like Fortnite, Conan, RoboCop and many others in the list.

Personally, I'm particularly pleased with three things about the current results:

  1. Science has slipped to number 1 in popularity. There is no question that the scientific successes of recent months and years are at least partly responsible for this. A nice development. :)
  2. Deadpool is out of the top 10 for the first time in almost 3 years. That's not meant to be gloating - Deadpool is great and I'm glad a third movie is coming. But it just couldn't keep up with the really massive nerd themes on its own for me.
  3. The fact that the newcomers Bud Spencer & Terence Hill and Asterix are so high up is a particularly big surprise. Newcomers usually end up much further down. I hope we'll be able to upgrade the store and the loot box a little on these topics. We'll definitely be keeping an eye out now. :)
